Wydown Middle School

Welcome to 8th Grade Science! This will be my eighth year at Wydown (and 23rd year as a teacher) and I am glad you are a part of Team 8-East!

 

This year, we will be working on a few different units in Earth Science, Life Science, and Physical Science.  Our big focus is the idea that "The only constant IS change."  To investigate that, we will be doing the following units:

~Experimental Design: putting together all the lab skills learned and used in 6th and 7th Grades to try some new experiments, and design some of our own.

~Evolutionary Ecology: looking at how organisms have adapted and continue to adapt to Earth's ever-changing environment.

~Chemistry and Climate Chemistry: from the basics of Chemistry and the Periodic Table to the starring role of Carbon in sustaining life on our planet, and how chemicals make up the world (and the climate) around us.

~Human Impact on the Environment: investigating how organisms affect their environment in many different ways and how people are changing Earth's environment at the same time as we work to preserve it.

 

In each unit, we will have labs, group discussions and work that help us think about the world around us.
