My name is Dave Powers, and this will be my nineteenth year teaching mathematics at Wydown Middle School. I am very excited about the opportunity I have to teach with and learn from our middle school greyhounds.
This I Believe
Teaching is both a science and an art.
There are no shortcuts.
To lay the strongest foundation in math, you must build conceptual understanding, computational fluency, and the capacity to problem-solve.
Problem-solving is what you do when you don't know the answer.
Grades are important, but they are not everything.
I love the contest winners, I love the strugglers, and I love all the ones in between.
I love that I get to teach all of them, not some of them.
