How do I schedule a Shadow Day for my student?
Shadow days are not required. However, if you think it would benefit your child to experience some classes at Wydown we are happy to set one up.
Visitors will shadow a student in their current grade for the morning. This would involve 2-3 classes. Students are also welcome to stay for lunch if they would like to experience the cafeteria.
To schedule a Shadow Day email Steffie Stout at StefanieStout@claytonschools.net.

How do I enroll in the District?
Enrollment is handled through the district office.
Here is a direct link to the Enrollment page with enrollment instructions. After your family's enrollment is confirmed, Wydown will contact you about course selection.
-
When do we choose classes?
Course selection happens after your family is enrolled in the district via the district office (see above for more info on this step.)
Check out our Program of Studies webpage for class options by grade. The 6th grade page also includes a virtual tour and general info about how teams and the school day works. It's a great overview of Middle School most of which will apply to all grades.
Class options for the following school year will be posted in early January. For new families, course selection will happen in March or shortly after enrollment.

Does Wydown do any placement tests?
Yes, we do have a few areas that require placement assessment.
Math: Over the summer students new to the district will take a Math placement test (NWEA). This will help us to ensure they are scheduled into the appropriate math class (we have multiple levels available to each grade). The goal is to have our students learning Math at the best pace for them. We don't want anyone bored or overwhelmed. There will be several dates available, a schedule will be emailed over the summer.
Gifted: Any student previously identified as gifted in their last district will be tested for our Gifted Program early in the fall semester. If they do test into the program they will have the option to adjust their spring schedule to add this class. Anyone new to the district not previously identified in a gifted program will be tested the following fall.
New 7th & 8th graders interested in French, Spanish, Orchestra or Band will be contacted by someone from the respective department regarding placement.

What does the daily schedule look like?
Our classes are in a Block Schedule. A typical week would follow this schedule: A B C A B.
A & B days include 4 85 minute classes each. Students end the day with something called PACK, a time to touch base, connect & catch up. It's about a 12:1 ratio and the same group every day.
C day is all 8 classes around 45 minutes each, we do not have PACK on C day.

What is the bus schedule?
Wydown does not have a bus for students living in the district. Students mostly walk, ride bikes or are picked up by a guardian. The entire district spans just 2.5 miles.

What sports do you offer?
Intramural athletics are non-competitive and played against peers. Intramurals are open to ALL students and do not require sign up or permission forms. Intramurals are 1/week during the season from 3:15-4:15
Interdistrict Athletics are competitive and played against other schools in our league. Interdistricts require sign ups, practices, permission forms, along with current athletic physical, and transportation to events. Interdistrict sports are often open to 8th grade students first, followed by 7th and 6th. Interdistrict athletics practice 3-4 times per week from 3:15-4:15.

Are there any new family events?
The week before school begins, we will have a New Student Orientation as well as a "walk-through" night where students come to walk their schedule, meet teachers and drop off supplies etc. We will also have a new family meet & greet in August or September. Our wonderful PTO has a welcome committee, Clayton Connections, that offers several events throughout the year for our new students and their families.
