     Physical Education

     

    Health& Physical Education Mission:

    Our mission is to teach students to live and value a healthy lifestyle reflecting ongoing psychomotor (physical), cognitive (mental), and affective (social/emotional) development.

     

    Clothing:

    ·       P.E. students have the option to dress out for class in a Wydown PE shirt or different clothes they bring from home; however,students are required and expected to wear: (1) socks, (2) tennis shoes, and(3) pants and/or shorts, which meet the school dress code each day.*

    ·      Students may not wear: jewelry, shirts with inappropriate sayings or logos, sandals, flip flops, or shoes that do not lace/tie.

    ·      Sweatshirts/jackets may be worn when it is cold outside.

    ·      Tennis shoes will be a daily requirement, and students without tennis shoes will not be able to participate.

    -     A locker in the locker room may be assigned to students who request one AND have a LOCK that they can put on their locker.

     

     

    Class Procedures:

    ·      All students should be in their class’s assigned area before the tardy bell rings.A pass is expected if you arrive late to class.

     

     

    Medical Excuses:

    ·      Any note brought from home excusing you from physical activity should be taken to the school nurse upon your arrival to school. A parent note is valid for two consecutive school days.

    ·      For extended medical excuses (longer than 2 days), a doctor’s note is required.

    (5) Student work is beyond expectations.

    Gives top effort & self motivation daily.  Committed to improving personal fitness. Initiates involvement in activity and organizes groups. Respectful to teachers.

    High level of participation. Always displays quality movement during activity. Excellent understanding of skills and strategies. Stays on task. Play fair.

    Shows respect to classmates. Encourages others to improve. Always demonstrates a positive attitude and good sportsmanship. Works well with others.

    (4) Student work meets expectations.

    Consistently follows rules. Consistently displays daily effort, cooperation and works hard. Has input in organizing the group.

    Good level of participation. Displays quality movement during activity. Demonstrates basic skills and strategies of games with ease. 

    Demonstrates a positive attitude and often encourages other students. Consistently demonstrates good sportsmanship.

    (3) Student work nearly meets described standards.

    Inconsistently follows rules. Puts forth minimum effort. Does not work hard enough to improve fitness level. Occasionally has input in organizing the group.

    Needs reminders to participate. On task most of the time. Performs most skills and game strategies at a satisfactory level.

    Inconsistently demonstrates positive attitude and sportsmanship.

    (2) Student work does not meet expectations.

    Puts forth minimum effort. Contributes little to activity. Inconsistently follows the rules. Does not work hard to improve personal fitness level. Rarely has input in organizing the group.

    Uncooperative at times. Talks when directions are being given. Displays poor understanding of basic skills and game strategy. Reminders to stay on task. 

    Sometimes disruptive. Very little encouragement to classmates. Argues during activity. Does not demonstrate positive sportsmanship. (Negative at times.)

    (1) Student work is unacceptable.

    Uncooperative. Poor effort. Little or no movement during activities. Never has input in organizing the group.

    Insufficient knowledge of rules and game strategies with no attempt to learn them. Bends rules to suit self. Doesn’t follow the rules. Avoids participation. Complaints about the task. 

    Disruptive. Interrupts the teacher when talking. Generally not involved. May ask inappropriate questions. Poor sportsmanship. Displays poor attitude towards activity.

     

     

    Each teacher will also evaluate their students’ skill and cognitive development through informal and formal skill and knowledge tests. These tests will be worth 10% of the student’s grade.
