Retiree Insurance

  • Missouri Revised Statutes Section 169.590 states that any insurance contract or plan issued or renewed after December 31, 1987 which provide group health insurance for employees of any Missouri school district shall contain provisions that permit:
     
    1.   Any employee of such district who retires, or who has retired, and is receiving or is eligible to receive retirement benefits under Chapter 169, RSMo, to remain or become a member of the group;
      
    2.   The surviving spouse of any employee to remain or become a member of the group, so long as such spouse is receiving or is eligible to receive retirement benefits under Chapter 169, RSMO; and, 
     
    3.   The surviving children of any employee to remain or become members of the group, so long as they are receiving or are eligible to receive retirement benefits under Chapter 169, RSMo.
     
    4.   Employees shall have one year from the date of last employed by the District to qualify for the coverage provided.   
     
    The plan or contract may provide a different level of coverage for any person electing to remain or become a member of an eligible group as provided in subsection 1 of the section if such person is eligible for Medicare under the Federal Health Insurance for the Aged Act, 42 USC 1395, as amended.
     
    Any person electing to become or remain a member of a group under subsection 1 of this section must pay the premium for such coverage, including the premium for any covered dependents.
     
    If coverage is elected through the District upon retirement, it is required you complete a Direct Debit Form as all premiums are paid to the District via direct debit.
     
    KEEP YOUR PLAN ADMINISTRATOR INFORMED OF ADDRESS CHANGES. 
     
    In order to protect you and your family's rights, you should keep the Plan Administrator informed of any changes in your address and the addresses of family members.  You should also keep a copy, for your records of any notices you send to the Plan Administrator.
