Nisha Patel, Ed.D.
The foundation of Dr. Nisha Patel’s belief in the value of education traces back to her childhood in Kenya. When she was nine years old, her family told her they were moving continents. The reason was simple. They were moving to the United States to get a better education because education is the key to success. From a very early age, her family’s commitment to the value of an education has reinforced her personal belief that providing students with an excellent education opens doors which allow them to thrive in life.
After high school in the Kansas City area, Dr. Patel attended the University of Kansas where she received her bachelor’s degree in cellular biology as well as her master’s degree in science education. She holds a Master of Science in Administration from Missouri Baptist University and received her doctoral degree in administrative leadership from Maryville University, where her capstone project focused on the impact of Freshmen Seminar (an optional course) on the overall experience for high school students.
Dr. Patel’s time as an educator includes experiences that range from classroom teacher to building administrator to superintendent. She began her career in education teaching science in the Kansas City area in 1999. After relocating to St. Louis, she spent nine years with the Rockwood School District, teaching high school science before moving on to serve as an assistant and associate high school principal before becoming principal at Crestview Middle School in 2013. She was named the Exemplary New Principal of the Year in 2014 by the St. Louis Association of Secondary School Principals. In 2016, she was appointed as Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools for the Fox C-6 School District and in 2019 was selected to serve as the Fox C-6 superintendent. Dr. Patel credits each of these roles as instrumental in her learning and growth as an educational leader.
Her family serves as a daily reminder for Dr. Patel about what is truly important in life. She has been raised to believe in hard work, humility, determination and excellence in all that you do. She feels that building relationships based on mutual respect and trust for every person is the cornerstone of success. Dr. Patel strives to surround herself with individuals that are grounded in the same beliefs and takes pride in supporting them to be the best version of themselves.
Dr. Nisha Patel begins her tenure as Superintendent of the School District of Clayton on July 1, 2021.
