Charge from the Board of Education
As a community, the students, staff, parents and patrons of the School District of Clayton are united in our commitment to student learning. Our mission, vision and core values embody why we are here, what we want our students to become and the principles that guide our work.

The School District of Clayton Board of Education recognizes that our mission cannot be fully achieved without sufficient resources to continue the District’s high level of performance. The Board further recognizes that community collaboration is a critical component of achieving the District mission and vision and that extensive community involvement and participation is essential to maintaining our status as one of the highest performing school districts in the country.
Therefore, in order to- continue the District’s commitment to involving the community in addressing important challenges and goals facing the District;
- enhance community understanding of the resources needed for meeting the high expectations of our community;
- assist the Board in hearing and understanding the community's educational beliefs, aspirations, desires and priorities;
- provide a framework for reaching conclusions regarding steps that are needed to provide essential resources for the District; and
- facilitate robust communications with the community regarding recommended steps to be taken to implement the District’s strategic plan;
The Board of Education hereby authorizes the formation of a broad-based coalition of community members and staff. The charge to this group is to provide options to the Board of Education regarding essential steps to be taken for continuing the District’s high level of performance. To accomplish this goal, the group should:
- gather current, accurate and reliable information that reflects the broad base of community perceptions and priorities related to student achievement, staff development and compensation, facilities, and other educational performance criteria;
- develop an understanding of the role, objectives, accomplishments and needs of the District;
- determine what steps need to be taken to support those needs in terms of resources to support programs, facilities and operations; and
- outline the steps that should be taken to continue meaningful and ongoing two-way communication with the community.
Recommendations/Report to Board
Upon completion of this process, this group should present options to the School District of Clayton Board of Education, addressing the Board’s charge, by no later than December 12, 2018.
