Parent FAQ for World Languages
What is the foreign language requirement?CHS graduation requirements align with that of the state of Missouri, which does not require any foreign language credits. However, we strongly recommend that most students learn a world language.
The key to learning a language is to start early and stick with it. At a minimum, we suggest all students commit to two years high school study of the same foreign language; this is the minimum requirement for admissions to all University of Missouri schools. For students who are considering highly selective colleges or universities, we recommend that the student commit to four high school years of the same language.
Which language should my son/daughter study?
We feel that students learn best when they are excited about their choice of a language. Beginners may choose from Chinese, French, Latin orSpanish. Each of these languages is challenging in some ways and easy in others. If you wish to learn more about how a specific language matches your child, you may contact the department chair.
My son/daughter needs a tutor. Can you recommend one?
Asa service to you, we try to keep names of those area tutors who have notified us that they are available to work with students. Please contact your son/daughter's teacher for the list. This list is merely for your convenience and does not represent a recommendation on our part; we often do not know these tutors, so we suggest that you request recommendations from their clients.
