In an Anatomy and Physiology class taught by Mike Sankey at CHS, students took to dissection for a new learning experience.

Anatomy and physiology, though similar, offer two specific approaches to studying a living organism:

• Anatomy: Students focus on the structure of living organisms by looking at the components of an organism's biological systems as well as the structure of the organs and tissues that make them up. (learn.org)
  
• Physiology: Students' learning centers on the function of cells, organs and tissues and how they work together in the body. (learn.org)

CHS students in Mr. Sankey's classes were dissecting fetal pigs as a culminating project for the fall semester. His students spent the last few months learning about anatomical regions, organs and dissecting procedures.

"These end-of-semester dissections allowed students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a fun and interesting way," said Sankey. "Lectures do great things for student learning but the hands-on exposure to various biological systems through dissection takes their learning to a whole new level. We also dissect sharks, cats and body organs such as the brain and eyes."
