Health Field Trip Puts Learning Into Action
Clayton High School sophomore health students put their learning into action with a short walk to Straub’s Market on Thursday, Sept. 5. The in-class field trip was held in conjunction with their nutrition unit in which the students have been studying Michael Pollan’s book, “In Defense of Food.”
On the field trip, each student was challenged to “buy” groceries to make a simple, healthy dinner for a family of four while following the food rules within Pollan’s book. For an added level of difficulty - and realism - the students could spend no more than $18.
Sophomore Health Teachers Sarah Gietschier-Hartman and Buddy Sodemann planned and accompanied their students on the field trip.
