BOE Honors 2019 National Merit Scholars

At its meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 6, the Board of Education honored the 23 Clayton High School students who have been named 2019 National Merit Scholars. Fifteen CHS seniors have been named Semifinalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Competition, while eight students were named Commended Students in the program.

Nationally, about 3.1 percent of students who take the PSAT qualify for recognition. The 23 students from CHS represent over 10 percent of the senior class, which is more than three times the national average. Nationally, less than one percent of all students make the cut to become semifinalists. CHS' 15 semifinalists represent more than seven percent of the class of 2019.
