CHS Students Bring Home Awards from the Fall NSPA National High School Journalism Convention
Several CHS students of Globe Newsmagazine won individual awards at the Fall National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) National High School Journalism Convention on Nov. 23, 2019, in Washington, D.C. Each year the NSPA distributes the Pacemaker Awards, Individual Awards and Best of Show Awards. In the area of Individual Awards, media are divided into different categories and judged based on content, quality of writing, design and other similar qualifications.
Students and their achievements are listed below:
- Grace Snelling was in the top 10 for the “Writer of the Year” portfolio category.
- Michael Melinger earned first in the nation for the “Photo of the Year” contest in the “Environmental Portrait” category.
- Jacob LaGesse, Shane LaGesse, James Malone, Michael Melinger earned first in the nation for “Sports Story of the Year” and first in the nation for “Digital Story of the Year” contest for “Why do we Still Play Football?”
- Grace Snelling, Lila Taylor, Sara Stemmler, and Michael Melinger earned third in the nation in the “Social Justice Reporting” contest for “It Doesn't Have to End.”
