9th Grade Parent Connections Liaisons: Jenny Abeles, Stephanie Konradi, Pam Washington

    2/25/25

Happy Tuesday Freshman parents and caregivers! We hope you had a nice weekend and are ready for some warm weather! We haven’t sent out an email in a while, so we wanted to make sure you are aware of a few important dates coming up during the next few months.

    MARCH

Monday, March 3, 2025 - Spring Sports begin

    APRIL

Wednesday, April 2, 2025 - PSAT9 (will be administered during school and students will register for the test during class time, with their teacher (based on the determined period) on their Chromebook). More information from Ms. Chandra Brown or Ms. Carolyn Blair to follow.

Tuesday, April 29, 2025 - Awards Ceremony - This is typically an awards ceremony for juniors and seniors. If your student will be receiving an award, you will be notified ahead of time so you know whether you need to attend or not.

    MAY

Thursday, May 8, 2025 - Parent Connections Meeting with Carolyn Blair - 6pm - 7pm, CHS Library. In contrast to our fall parent connections event, this will be a Q&A with CHS College Counselor, Carolyn Blair. Here you will learn more about what to expect to be happening in the next few years and what you and your children need to start thinking about.

TBD - Ms. Brown or Ms. Blair will communicate with students to let them know how to access their PSAT9 information.

National Honor Society Information (from Carroll Lehhoff-Bell - Advisor)

To qualify for NHS, Students need 20+ hours of community service each year, including freshman year. This is a great time to start volunteering and logging hours now.

For an invitation to NHS, students must have a 3.6 or higher cumulative GPA. Once invited, if a student applies, the student is brought to a faculty council who looks at a variety of information -- grades, faculty feedback, attendance, and disciplinary infractions -- in order to make a decision about entry into NHS. So it might be helpful for families to know that in addition to grades and community service, attendance, discipline, and character are all factors considered for acceptance into NHS.

Logging Community Service Hours - We'll only accept this form currently on the website. This is a Google form. Before filling out the form, please make sure to "make a copy" of the form and save it to your personal drive. This helps ensure that the form is not accidentally edited.

Please refer to the website to learn what counts for service hours and what does not. FYI, decorating for Homecoming, fundraising for an organization, or managing a sports team do not count as Community Service.

A reminder that invitations to apply are given to all 10th, 11th, or 12th graders with a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher, who are enrolled at CHS full-time. For further questions about National Honor Society community service hours, please contact Mrs. Carroll Lehnhoff-Bell, co-advisor for CHS National Honor Society.

Please reach out to us if you have any questions. Thanks and we hope you have a wonderful week!
