Captain Elementary School

Dr. J. Tyler Harger is currently the Educational Mathematics Specialist at Captain Elementary for the School District of Clayton.  Dr. Harger started teaching in 2007 for Clayton.  While at Clayton, Harger has been a fourth grade teacher, the gifted specialist, and now the math specialist.  He started teaching in 1996.  Harger has had experience in the classroom in both private and public education.  Dr. Harger has taught all grades 1-6 in North Carolina at the Wake County Public School System, Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School in Ladue, Missouri, and now with Clayton.  Dr. Harger graduated with a BS in Elementary Education with a concentration in music from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina in 1996.  He earned his Master’s degree in School Administration in 2002 from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Harger went on to receive his PhD in Teaching and Learning Processes with an emphasis in math education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 2007.  He also is an adjunct professor at the UMSL teaching courses for graduate and undergraduate education majors.
