Personal Visits

  •  Certified parent educators, employed by Clayton schools and trained in child development, get to know you and your family through personal visits, providing individualized support until your last child goes off to kindergarten. We listen to your questions, concerns and observations and offer strategies to encourage and equip you to manage the daily routines and challenging stages of early childhood.

Research-based curriculum is provided on each visit covering topics such as healthy sleep and nutrition, safety proofing, supporting language development, dealing with temper tantrums, encouraging pre-reading and math skills and much more!

Visits are an hour and can take place at your home, the Family Center, a local park or other place of interest. We meet with families throughout the year, and determine the frequency together. A mix of in-person, virtual or phone meetings helps accommodate busy schedules.

Annual Developmental Screening

  • Participation in the Clayton Parents as Teachers program includes FREE, developmental and social-emotional screenings for each child, ages 2 months to kindergarten entry.

Annual screenings are an effective way to observe your child's development, help celebrate milestones, and know what to look for next.

It can be an essential step in checking for barriers to development in the critical early years before your child starts Kindergarten. When barriers to development are present, your parent educator will work with you to connect you to the appropriate resources to strengthen your child's skills in that area.
