Parents as Teachers

  • Parents as Teachers is a state-sponsored program for expectant parents and parents of young children who have not yet begun kindergarten. All residents of the School District of Clayton may participate. This is a FREE service. In addition to home contacts, a lecture/activity series and annual screenings, the program includes use of the Family Center library.

     

Personal Visits

    • A parent educator meets with you and your child either in your home or at the Family Center to share child development information, address your concerns, and prepare you for upcoming developmental milestones.
    • New families may enroll anytime during the school year.
    • Registration forms may be completed at the PAT Kick Offs, Lecture/Activity Series, or Family Center Stay, Play & Learn sessions.

Annual Developmental Screening

    • PAT provides free screening for children age 6 months to kindergarten entry to assess conceptual, motor and language development, in addition to vision, hearing, and health.
    • Screening for children age 6 months to two years are completed at a personal visit by a parent educator.

Lecture/Activity Series

    • Special interest programs are offered during daytime and evening hours.
    • Programs take place at the Family Center unless otherwise indicated.
    • Childcare is not available for the "Parents Only" lectures.
    • Sign-up priority will be given to resident families participating in the PAT personal visit program. Others will be served as space is available.
