Clayton students in third through eighth grade take part in the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) Grade-Level Assessment each spring. Students in third, fourth, sixth and seventh grade are assessed in English language arts and mathematics only, while fifth- and eighth-grade students are assessed in these subjects as well as science. The content of these assessments is based on the Missouri Learning Standards, which align to college and career readiness standards.
New in 2015, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is requiring all districts to administer the MAP online. While the assessments will still include traditional selected-response and constructed-response items, they will also incorporate innovative technology-enhanced items designed to elicit student evidence in new ways. Information to assist parents in interpreting their student's score reports can be found here
DESE uses the information obtained through the MAP Grade-Level Assessments in a variety of ways. In addition to monitoring the progress of Missouri’s students in meeting the Missouri Learning Standards, DESE also uses the data to inform the public and the State legislature about students’ performance and to help make informed decisions about educational issues.
