Meramec Kindergarten Teacher Earns Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award
The School District of Clayton is pleased to announce Meramec Elementary Kindergarten Teacher Patti Casseau has been selected as the District’s recipient of the 2019 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award. A committee comprised of past Emerson Award winners selects the award recipient from the pool of nominees. For the past 27 years, Casseau has built strong relationships with her students, parents and staff at Meramec with her enthusiasm, welcoming smile and love for learning.
Casseau has high expectations for all students, and she helps them achieve success through the structured, playful, loving environment she creates in her classroom. Every student who enters her classroom feels safe, healthy, engaged, supported and challenged, both academically and socially. Not only does Casseau work tirelessly to plan, prepare and challenge her kindergarteners, but she also has a special way of connecting with each student. Visitors to her classroom will often hear Casseau singing to her students as she is teaching a skill in order to ensure she makes learning fun for her students.
Although Casseau has been teaching for nearly three decades, she continues to stay current in her practice by growing and improving through attending District workshops, exploring new teachings and ideas and traveling to visit other schools. She constantly pushes her colleagues’ thinking to bring about the best outcome for all students and has a strong knack for problem solving and overcoming obstacles. Casseau has served as a leader on numerous committees throughout her years and is always valued and respected as a team player. Casseau is touted by her colleagues as one of the most committed teachers at Meramec Elementary School and is well deserving of the District’s 2019 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award.
Casseau will be honored at an awards ceremony and reception sponsored by Emerson this fall. She also is eligible to apply for grant funding provided by Emerson to support her teaching goals.
