Students Learn New Language Through The Hour of Code
Captain Elementary students spent time during the first week of December learning the language of coding in conjunction with one of the largest worldwide learning events in history: The Hour of Code. Classes throughout the school spent time during Computer Science Education Week, held Dec. 3-7, using a variety of tools to learn about coding. They also welcomed several guest speakers, including parents who are experts in the field, to help students learn more about computer science and the jobs they can pursue in the future.
The Hour of Code is a school-wide experience at Captain that ties directly to the District’s strategic plan objective of ensuring the integration of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education within the District’s PK-12 curriculum. By participating in Computer Science Education Week and the Hour of Code, students gained a broader understanding of technology and learned more about the growing field of computer science. Nearly 693 million students around the world have participated in The Hour of Code since its inception in 2013.
