International Families Enjoy a Day at the Art Museum
More than 20 of the District’s international families from Captain, Glenridge and Meramec Elementary Schools, along with English Language (EL) Specialists Alejandra Bergstrom and Sarah Gottemoeller, enjoyed spending the day together at the St. Louis Art Museum on Sunday, March 18.
The event began with parents and children working together to create paper chairs, taking them “from ordinary to extraordinary.” The families and their teachers then took a tour of the museum with guidance from two museum docents, where they had the opportunity to explore some examples of ordinary items turned into extraordinary works of art. The group observed a glass-blown chandelier by Dale Chihuly, different styles of chairs, marble and bronze sculptures, and native American shoes and clothes.
“It was a fascinating learning experience for more than 20 families!” said Bergstrom. “We all enjoyed a fine afternoon at one of the best museums in town.”
