Marke Freeman, former professional women’s basketball player, coached and spoke with the WMS girl’s basketball team on Tuesday, Feb 4.
Freeman was drafted by the Washington Mystics based in Washington, D.C., but went overseas to join Tęcza Leszno, an international professional team located in Leszno, Poland. Freeman is from Springfield, Illinois and played on the NIU Huskies basketball team during her time in college.
Vincent Donnell, coach of the WMS girl’s basketball team, invited Freeman to run drills and share her story. Freeman gave the students insight into what it is like to be a female in a male-dominated sport. She also spoke about the balance of maintaining a career on and off the court.
“Success is not measured by where you are. It is measured by how far you’ve come and those you help along the way,” said Freeman.
