Clayton Named a Top Woman-Led Workplace

Women hold many of the School District of Clayton’s key leadership roles. For the past six years, the District has been led by a female superintendent. Women also make up half of Clayton’s Central Office administrative team and lead four of the District’s six schools.

That strong representation in leadership has long been part of Clayton’s culture, and the District is proud to now be recognized as one of Energage’s Top Woman-Led Workplaces, an award presented in partnership with Innovation Women.

The recognition is based on feedback gathered through Energage’s anonymous employee survey. Organizations are grouped by size, with employee responses evaluated across areas including workplace culture, engagement and the overall employee experience. The Top Women-Led Workplaces award recognizes organizations whose most senior leader is a woman and whose employees provide strong feedback about their workplace.

When asked to describe Clayton’s culture in three words, employees most often chose collaborative, inclusive and innovative. Clayton also earned high marks for professional development, ranking among the top 10 recognized organizations for responses to the statement, “I have frequent opportunities to learn and grow at the School District of Clayton.”

That sense of support and purpose also came through in employees’ written comments. One Clayton teacher shared:

“I work with people who enjoy working with children and care for their well-being. I feel like we provide a vital service to the community — helping kids become good friends, community members and learners.”

The Top Women-Led Workplace recognition builds on eight other national honors the District received earlier this year, including recognition as a Top Workplace in the education industry.

“We work hard to be an inclusive, collaborative and innovative organization, and it means a great deal to see our staff describe Clayton in those same ways,” said Superintendent Nisha Patel, EdD. “Our people are what make Clayton special. They care deeply about our students, one another and the work they do every day.”
