CHS Celebrates 15 National Merit Semifinalists

Clayton High School National Merit Announcement

Clayton High School is proud to announce that 15 students have been named Semifinalists in the 72nd Annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

This year’s Semifinalists are:

  • Sam Abeles
  • Talin Bhatt
  • Lorenzo Buitrago
  • Rocco Caira
  • Isadora Dolan
  • Lucy Finn
  • Bennett Garfinkel
  • Ruben Haroutounian
  • Dylan Keefe
  • Daniel Liu
  • Haowen Liu
  • Lydia Powell
  • Samanyu Tumuluru
  • David Wharton
  • Eric Zhou

Each year, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation conducts one of the country’s most respected academic competitions, recognizing high-achieving students nationwide. The process begins with the PSAT, taken during a student’s junior year, with top performers earning recognition as Commended Students or advancing to Semifinalist status.

Semifinalists represent less than 1% of high school seniors nationwide and include the highest-scoring entrants in each state. As Semifinalists, these students now have the opportunity to continue in the competition by submitting detailed applications and academic records for consideration as Finalists. Those who advance will compete for approximately 6,700 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $24 million, which will be awarded next spring.

The students will be recognized by the Clayton Board of Education during the District’s upcoming Recognizing Our Own event on Nov. 18.

Join us in congratulating these students on this outstanding achievement!
