Summer Academy

Credit Recovery
Students who need to recover credit will complete coursework through Edmentum, an online learning platform. For students who benefit from additional structure, a quiet, on-campus workspace will be available. A dedicated credit recovery teacher will collaborate with CHS department chairs to design individualized recovery plans and will monitor student progress throughout the summer. Credit Acquisition
The School District of Clayton’s preferred provider, LAUNCH, offers a traditional asynchronous online experience. Students who participate in this option will work independently and manage their own schedules.

A Great Start to CHS
Incoming freshmen students may participate in A Great Start to CHS on the campus of Clayton High School. Led by the CHS administrative team, this program is designed to support students as they transition into high school. Be on the lookout for details from Principal Dr. Dan Gutchewsky on how to register.

Students entering grades 6–8 can participate in Summer Academy at Wydown Middle School.  Through intentional and meaningful experiences designed to grow each learner in head and heart, students will focus on developing their own self-awareness as learners and leave with strategies that will support their continued growth in the fall. Students who participate can choose from two of the four learning experiences:

• Math: Embracing challenge and building confidence with number sense and problem solving
• Literacy: Growing as readers, writers and storytellers
• Design: Working together to engineer solutions to solve meaningful problems through design thinking
• Wellness: Understanding ourselves, connecting with others, and making positive choices

Experiences take place in 90-minute sessions over a two-week period (9 days), are co-taught by two educators and culminate in a student showcase. Students will work toward progress on both academic and social-emotional learning (SEL) goals.

Summer Academy pre-registration will open to invited students based on student data and school recommendations in early March. Invited students may be encouraged to register for specific sessions based on school-year data. Additional seats will become available to all students in late March.
