MOCAP Virtual Enrollment

The enrollment process for Clayton students varies depending on their learning choices, including program choice and number of courses. Full time enrollment in a MOCAP program:

• Students/families will talk with their counselor about their plans to enroll full time in a MOCAP provider.
• Students/families wishing to enroll full time with a MOCAP provider, including the District's preferred provider, Launch will contact the provider directly for enrollment information.
• Students with an IEP should work with the school for the best educational decision.
• Students enrolled in a full-time MOCAP program will still be required to take Missouri state assessments.

NOTE: Students participating in full-time virtual learning through a hosted MOCAP provider will be required to enroll in the virtual program's host district and will be unenrolled from the School District of Clayton.  Please check the host district's graduation requirements prior to enrolling. Enrollment could have an impact on Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) eligibility. 

Students have the option to enroll in virtual courses on a part-time basis. The District will pay the costs of a virtual course only if the District has first approved the student's enrollment in the course. Even if a student or his or her parents/guardians pay the costs for a virtual course, the student or parents/guardians should meet with the principal or designee prior to enrollment to ensure that the course is consistent with the student's academic and personal goals. The District is not required to provide students access to or pay for courses beyond the equivalent of full-time enrollment.

Options for students in grades 6-12 for part-time virtual enrollment:

• Launch is the District's preferred provider 

• St. Louis Virtual Campus 

• The DESE website lists other MOCAP options

When determining if enrollment in a virtual course is the best educational decision for a student, the student and parent might consider the following preferred student skills for success in virtual courses:

• Student has demonstrated time-management skills that indicate the student is capable of submitting assignments and completing course requirements without reminders.
• Student has demonstrated persistence in overcoming obstacles and willingness to seek assistance when needed.
• Student has demonstrated verbal or written communication skills that would allow the student to succeed in an environment where the instructor may not provide nonverbal cues to support the student’s understanding.
• Student has the necessary computer or technical skills to succeed in a virtual course.
• Student has access to technology resources to participate in a virtual course.
• Student previously has been successful with virtual coursework.

Because virtual instruction can be an effective education option for some students, the District offers virtual courses to students by contracting for those services through Launch, the District’s preferred virtual education provider. In addition, eligible students may enroll in virtual courses offered through the Missouri Course Access Program (MOCAP) particularly if the preferred course is not offered through Launch. The District will accept all grades and credits earned through Launch and MOCAP.

The District in some cases will pay the costs of a virtual course, but only if the District has first approved the student's enrollment in the course as described in Board policy. Even if a student or their parents/guardians pay the costs for a virtual course, the student or parents/guardians should meet with the counselor prior to enrollment to ensure that the course is consistent with the student's academic and personal goals.  The District is not required to provide students access to or pay for courses beyond the equivalent of full-time enrollment.

Students taking courses virtually are subject to District policies, procedures and rules applicable to students enrolled in traditional courses including, but not limited to, the District's discipline code and prohibitions on academic dishonesty, discrimination, harassment, bullying and cyberbullying.
