District Leadership
The administrative team in the School District of Clayton is dedicated to the academic success of all students. Guided by a shared commitment to excellence, the team works in partnership with students, families, and staff to ensure every learner has the support needed to thrive. The superintendent is responsible for advancing the District’s goals and vision. Supporting this work is a team of central office leaders who oversee key areas including Communications, Equity and Student Services, Business and Finance, Human Resources, Teaching and Learning, and Technology.
Superintendent Dr. Nisha Patel
Dr. Nisha Patel has served as superintendent of the School District of Clayton since 2021. A lifelong educator, she was honored in 2025 with the Missouri Association of School Administrators’ Robert L. Pearce Award for her dedication and leadership.
Dr. Patel began her career in 1999 as a science teacher in the Kansas City area before moving to the Rockwood School District, where she taught high school science and became a school leader. In 2014, she was named Exemplary New Principal of the Year by the St. Louis Association of Secondary School Principals. She later served in district leadership roles in the Fox C-6 School District, including assistant superintendent and superintendent.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in cellular biology and a master’s degree in science education from the University of Kansas, as well as a master’s degree in administration from Missouri Baptist University and a doctorate in administrative leadership from Maryville University. Her doctoral capstone examined the impact of Freshman Seminar programs on students’ overall high school experience.
Growing up in Kenya and moving to the United States at age nine shaped Dr. Patel’s belief in the transformative power of education. Guided by values of hard work, humility and excellence, she believes that strong, supportive relationships are the foundation of a successful and vibrant school community.
