• IMPORTANT: Report a positive COVID-19 test for you or a member of your household. Students should contact the school nurse or building administrator of your child’s school. Staff members  should contact your building administrator or supervisor. 

    Everyone must stay home if they are sick. Report normal absences and illnesses as usual. However, positive or suspected cases of COVID-19 need to be reported immediately to allow the schools to take appropriate action. Please report such cases as follows:

    • Students: Contact the building administrator or your school nurse.
    • Staff Members: Contact your building administrator or supervisor.

    COVID-19 Illness Symptoms

    Students and staff must not come to school if they are sick, quarantining or waiting for COVID-19 test results. Do not come to school or work if you have a current respiratory illness and/or symptoms of COVD-19 or a known exposure to a positive COVID-19 case within the past 14 days. If any of these apply, please notify your child's building administrator or, for staff, your principal or supervisor. 

    COVID-19 SYMPTOMS*

    • Fever or chills (100.4ºF or greater)

    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Fatigue
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Sore throat

    Daily Health Assessments Required for Students, Staff

    All district staff and parents/guardians are asked to review the list of COVID-19 symptoms daily to determine if they should go to school/work or stay home. Anyone with a fever of 100.4º or higher should not attend school. Families should conduct a self-assessment for symptoms including a fever, a sense of having a fever, chills, a cough, sore throat, headache, new loss of smell or taste, or new muscle aches. If these symptoms occur, do not attend school/work and call your child’s school to report the symptoms. Any staff member or student who is sick or displays symptoms of COVID-19 must stay home to prevent the spread of illness. They must also inform the school of their illness. 

    Important: If a student becomes ill during the day, they will be moved to a health isolation room and their emergency contacts will be called and given instructions to pick them up immediately and how to do so in a safe manner. Families should ensure their contact information, including emergency contacts, is up to date in PowerSchool. If not, please contact the child’s school office. If a staff member becomes ill during the day, they will be sent home.

    What happens when a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19

    1) School Officials Notified.

    • During the school day - Staff members who become sick with COVID-19 symptoms will be sent home immediately. Students who become ill will be sent to a health isolation room and the student’s emergency contacts will be called to pick up the child immediately. Sick students or staff should then contact their health care provider about being tested and keep the school informed of any outcome.
    • At home - Students and staff who become sick with COVID-19 symptoms at home or who have a positive COVID-19 test should stay home and notify their school office or, for staff, their supervisor, about their situation. They must follow their health care provider instructions and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines regarding when it is safe to return to school, as well as keep the school informed about when they have been cleared to return to school.

    2) Contact Tracing Begins.

    • Our contact tracing team works with the health department and school administration on providing communication and guidance to impacted students and staff letting them know what steps they need to take and the potential need to isolate, quarantine, etc.

     3) Impact on School Determined.

    District administrators, working with county health department officials, will determine whether the impacted school will need to close.

    • A contract tracing team will identify who was in contact (within a three-foot space for at least 15 minutes) with the individual who tested positive for COVID-19. If specific contacts cannot be identified, everyone who was in the same room, bus or other areas may be quarantined according to county health guidelines. 
    • Local health officials’ recommendations for the scope (e.g., a single school, multiple schools, the full district) and duration of school closures will be made on a case by-case basis using the most up-to-date information about COVID-19 and the specific cases in the community.
    • If a person diagnosed with COVID-19 is determined to have been in the building and poses a risk to the staff or students, a school may close temporarily for cleaning and disinfection if the school is unable to complete cleaning during its nighttime closing.
    • During school closures, extracurricular activities, school-based after-school programs and other events will also be canceled.

    4) Communicating with the Community.

    • The District will communicate with affected families and staff only about positive cases among students and staff in its schools. The district will NOT communicate if a family member of a student or staff member has tested positive, but will still take appropriate quarantining steps for the impacted student or staff, per CDC guidelines.
    • The District will share information about positive cases in a specific school via it’s COVID-19 Data Dashboard. Students and staff who are identified as close contacts will be notified via phone and email about appropriate next steps and potential quarantines. School-wide emails to families and staff reporting positive cases will not be sent during the 2021-2022 school year. 
    • Due to laws protecting student and staff privacy, no identifying information about the student or staff member who tested positive will be released to the public. Any students or staff who are identified as having been in close contact (as defined by the CDC) with the individual will be notified as part of the contact tracing process and instructed on what steps to take.

     5) Impacted Facilities Deep Cleaned.

    • Impacted schools or specific areas impacted by a positive case of COVID-19 will be thoroughly cleaned by staff or an outside cleaning company, depending on the situation.
