INFORMATION ABOUT LATIN ADVANCED PLACEMENTWe do not offer an official Latin AP class, but the self-motivated student should be able to do well on the AP test at the end of Latin V. In Latin V we read the same texts covered by the AP, but do not cover the entire amount. The student who is serious about doing well on the AP test should plan on doing extra reading, both during the school year and also the summer before he or she plans on sitting the test. We have had students in the past few years who have taken the AP test and done well. The College Board AP Latin course page: http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/courses/teachers_corner/2260.htmlTHE LATIN AP CURRICULUM at a glance:Readings in Latin

Read the following over the summer:- Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, or a good outline of them together with selected passages out of the texts themselves, to get a feel for the major events, themes and writing style of the 'original' epics
- the entire Aeneid in English (or at least the chapters above in whole and consult a synopsis for the other books), making an outline of plot and main characters
- history of the end of the Republic and Caesar's activities.
2. Keep reading Latin! May include:- the passage of de Bello Gallico from book 5 in Latin (which we shall not be doing together in class)--See the Skinner Latin V page for the wiki-based text we use for Caesar in order to get the text, vocabulary and notes
- the passages of book 6 of the Aeneid in Latin (which we may not get to in class)
- practicing vocabulary: Caesar and Vergil vocab found in power-point form on Skinner Latin V site, basic vocabulary of all sorts on Skinner's Vocabulary page
- practicing forms: keep up with noun and verb forms (there are several on Skinner Latin III page)
- other teachers' support websites for the AP. One of my favorite is Abney (link on Skinner Latin V Vergil page) with flashcards for the highest frequency vocabulary in Vergil as well as many other practices.
