Love and Logic Workshop Teaches Valuable Parenting Strategies
Twenty-five elementary, middle and high school parents met several times throughout February and March to share their parenting challenges and joys and to enhance their own parenting strategies through the District’s Love and Logic Parenting Workshop. This free annual workshop, which was co-facilitated by Family Center Parent Educator Jani Holyan and Glenridge Elementary Guidance Counselor Rachel Spann, teaches parents methods for building strong, healthy families.
“Having time set aside in my schedule to focus on and consciously think about how I want to parent my child was invaluable for me,” said Love and Logic participant Amber Kempf. “But what I enjoyed most about the class was interacting with the other parents. When we shared our common parenting struggles and thought about how we could better manage them as a group, I think it helped us all feel less alone and more supported by our community in the difficult process of raising kids.”
The District has been serving parents with its parenting education program since 1975. Through the District’s Family Center, all parents are encouraged to participate in the program to help build the foundation for their child’s success in school and in life. In addition to Love and Logic, the Family Center offers a variety of parent workshops throughout the year. Parents can design their own fee-based parenting workshop by picking a topic or book they’d like to study, gathering at least five friends and contacting the Family Center to set up the workshop. Parent coaching, on an individual basis, is also available throughout the school year.
