World’s Fair is Culmination of Learning
A year’s worth of learning and research in social studies culminated with Captain Elementary’s third-grade World’s Fair held on Wednesday, May 20. At the beginning of the school year, the third-graders each picked a country on which they wanted to focus. Following each of the three main social studies units this year – Culture, Geography and Economics – the students conducted research on these topics pertaining to their selected countries.
For the World’s Fair, the students compiled their research and created a tri-fold poster board, a Google Slides presentation, a non-fiction book or a video. The presentations also included artifacts and food commonly eaten in each country. Parents and the school’s second-graders were invited to the World’s Fair event to see what the students had learned about their country. Attendees traveled from country to country with a passport they had "stamped" by third-graders at each country.
